Games Localization

Aeria Games

I worked for 2 years in-house at Aeria Games as localization team lead, where I got to work on video games for a living.

I coordinated a team of six translators, translating games from German to English as well as proofreading, editing, and re-writing English language texts. We often localized games into multiple languages for simultaneous release, so I’m not only used to coordinating with other translators in my language pairs but also with other language teams to ensure consistency across all versions of a text.

I worked on everything from MMOs with extensive voice-overs to football managers and other mobile apps. I know how to deal with both the technical and the linguistic aspects of game translation–not only can I make your game text sound good, I can make sure it works, too.

Speaking of making things sound good, I’m an absolute fanatic for consistency. So much so that my team and I once had a voice-over dialogue sent back for re-recording THREE times to make sure a crucial word was pronounced properly.

That’s the kind of attention to detail I give everything I work on.

Aside from working on in-game texts, I translated, edited and proofread marketing texts, triple-checked websites before launch, and got to do some hilariously fun creative writing for the mobile games we released. Who knew I’d be writing limericks about punch-drunk mice when I grew up? Definitely not me.

I worked closely with Kristal for almost two years at Aeria, during which time she oversaw the creation, editing, and localization of an extremely broad range of content. Her skill as team lead during this time was invaluable, and she did a fantastic job of helping our team and department stay focused and organized during a time of rapid growth. She approaches localization with the perfect blend of know-how and curiosity, and has extensive knowledge of game terminology, gameplay mechanics, and the file types and structures needed for software development and publishing. I have no doubt she would be a great asset to any work environment and am happy to give her my highest recommendation.
